We visit DefCon 31
We were very happy to visit DEFCON in Las Vegas, NV, USA in August 2023 for the first time!
DEFCON is an annual event which attracts up 30,000 attendees interested in the fields of Physical Security, Computer Security, Social Engineering, Misinformation, Red Teaming, Blue Teaming and everything Hacking-related, and is commonly known as one of the biggest hacker conferences worldwide.
The event stretched over three hotels and one convention center but due to good planning and DEFCONs Hacker Tracker app we were able to see many talks, events and workshops in various fields.
Some of us, with a lot of determination, even made it into the highly sought after Red Teaming Village to sharpen and prove our skills.
Overall, it was a very hands-on, welcoming and inclusive event with the playful curiosity we did not expect in the dry heat of Las Vegas! We had lots of possibilities to try things in different disciplines which not all of us do on a regular basis, (e.g., lockpicking as a pen-tester) and deepen or expand our knowledge in our specific fields.
